Why learn a language?

Learning a language in Scotland opens doors far beyond the classroom. It helps young people develop confidence, cultural awareness, and essential communication skills that are valued in today’s global society. In our school, language learning supports curiosity about the wider world while strengthening literacy and critical thinking. Whether for travel, work, or personal growth, the ability to understand and speak another language is a powerful skill that equips our learners for life beyond school.

Modern Languages Pathway:

• S1: German or Spanish
• S2: German or Spanish, plus a Language Taster experience
• S3: German or Spanish
  Pupils are encouraged to continue with their original language; however, beginner options are available (please discuss with Mrs Sinclair).
• S4: National 4 / National 5 German or Spanish
• S5–S6: National 5 or Higher German or Spanish
